Country Lights Uganda Legal Team and Department

Country Lights Uganda’s Legal Team and Department

Our dedicated legal department champions the rights of vulnerable individuals, with a particular emphasis on children in Uganda. Comprised of a diverse team including lawyers and Human Rights Activists, each member is highly qualified in their respective fields. The focus of our Legal Department is guided by three core thematic areas:

UNDERSTANDING CHILDREN’S RIGHTS

The rights of children are enshrined in international, regional, and national frameworks that delineate the fundamental entitlements of every child. Children placed in alternative care situations are particularly susceptible to vulnerabilities. Our mission is to magnify their voices, ensuring their prominent presence in policy formulation and decision-making. We collaborate with governments and partners to guarantee the protection, care, empowerment, and respect of the rights of children who have either lost parental care or are at risk of losing it.

ADVOCATE FOR CHILDREN’S RIGHTS

We stand as advocates for children, endeavoring to educate communities and decision-makers about the rights of children. We actively encourage children to participate in the decision-making processes that impact their lives and to articulate their needs and desires.

SAFEGUARD CHILDREN

Every child has the inherent right to protection and the assurance of safety. At Country Lights Uganda, we unequivocally condemn all forms of child abuse, exploitation, neglect, or invasions of a child’s privacy. Our unwavering commitment is to create and sustain a nurturing and protective environment for each child we engage with through our programs.

We are devoted to upholding the rights of all children, grounded in internationally recognized frameworks such as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), the UN Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children, and the Sustainable Development Goals. The UNCRC, ratified in 1989, establishes universal fundamental rights for all children globally. It has garnered support from 196 countries and serves as a comprehensive global blueprint for the rights of children.
